Will Magnesium Citrate “Clean You Out”?

Hi everyone! I'm Meg Esser, Registered Holistic Nutritionist with ITL Health. One of the most common questions we get is: “Will magnesium citrate clean you out?”

In short—magnesium citrate can help you go.
It’s often used to relieve occasional constipation because it draws water into the intestines and helps relax the bowel muscles, which encourages natural movement (known as peristalsis).

However, that doesn’t mean it will completely flush you out or cause sudden diarrhea. If you're taking a standard or moderate amount of magnesium citrate, especially in a highly absorbable form like our Ionic Magnesium Citrate, you’re unlikely to experience dramatic bowel effects—especially if you're already in good health.

But what if you're constipated?
In that case, a higher dose—up to bowel tolerance—can be helpful and is often recommended by practitioners to get things moving. It’s a gentle and effective option when used correctly, and far less aggressive than stimulant laxatives.

At ITL Health, we offer a proprietary blend of Ionic Magnesium Citrate, designed for maximum absorption. It’s essentially "pre-digested," meaning your body can absorb and use it quickly without needing to convert it into a usable form first.

Looking to try it for yourself?
